Theme-based Tours

We offer an age appropriate group activity located within a Museum gallery. See themes and activities below. All activities are aligned to Florida’s Sunshine State Standards and The Miami-Dade County Public Schools Competency-Based Curriculum. Theme-based tours are available throughout the academic year on all days that public schools are in session. Tours are subject to availability.

Themes

Ocean in Motion
Grades Pre-K – 2nd

Explore how our actions affect life in the ocean and how we depend on the ocean for food and commercial trade. Also, learn about South Florida’s Everglades and fish native to our waters.

Your Life, Your Body
Grades Pre-K – 2nd

Become a doctor, learn to check vital signs and take your “patients” to the hospital. This interactive tour teaches you about the human body and the importance of healthy eating.

Math’s Melody
Grades Pre-K – 2nd

Using the book, Math Curse, we will look at everything in the museum as a math problem. Counting, adding and subtracting equals great fun. But be careful. Once you start, it’s hard to stop!

Art All Around
Grades Pre-K – 2nd

Everywhere you look, there is art. During this in-depth program, we will explore the life and works of artists like Miró and Warhol and see the museum through the eyes of an artist.

Ship Science
Grades 2 – 5th

Miami is a center for imports and exports. Investigate a “shipping container” in our Port of Miami Exhibit, explore international foods and test your understanding of buoyancy by creating your own ship!

Dollars & Sense
Grades 2 – 5th

Learn the basics of financial literacy. Can you pay your bills, buy groceries, and visit the doctor? Try writing checks and balancing your budget as you navigate through “life” in our Kidscape Village.

Cultural Connections
Grades 2 – 5th

Discover the world’s diversity from currency to spices by listening to music from around the world, examining cultural traditions and clothing and much more!

Collector's Paradise
Grades 2 – 5th

Using the format of the television show Antiques Roadshow, we will explore the value of our collection of objects. Creativity is at a premium and is rewarded at our "auction". Ever wonder where money comes from? As an added bonus, we look at the history of money in our bank.
