Miami Children's Museum Overview:

The Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to enriching the lives of all children by fostering a love of learning and enabling children to realize their highest potential. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to play together, learn, imagine and create. The museum offers interactive exhibits, programs and learning materials related to arts, culture, community and communication. Founded in 1983, the Miami Children’s Museum is a valued community resource, which has earned an excellent reputation through promoting a diverse and progressive curriculum.  The museum’s educational resources include: 22,000 sq. ft. of exhibits comprising 12 exhibit galleries; classrooms; parent/teacher resource center; technology center; charter school; and 200-seat auditorium.

After-School and Summer Program Site Co-Ordinator 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Miami Children's Museum is looking for a creative, organized, patient, and kind person to work as a site co-ordinator for our learning-oriented after-school and summer program. The goal of our program is to help children grow – academically, emotionally, and physically. This is a full-time year-round position that includes salary, medical, dental, and vision insurance and paid sick leave and personal / vacation days.

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of after-school program at school site.

  • Collaborate with other site co-ordinators to design fun hands-on learning activities for k – 8th graders

  • Supervise collection of program documentation, including attendance, registration, and evaluations

  • Supervise and coach teaching staff

  • Act as liaison between school administration and program manager

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, especially degree in education, early childhood, or another relevant field. Applicants with an Associate’s degree and at least 3 years relevant experience (including CDS Director’s Credential) may also apply. Teacher certification preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Experience as a leader within a team (either at a job, as a volunteer, or elsewhere in your life)

  • Experience developing educational activities for k – 8th grade students

  • Ability to interact positively with kids, parents and co-workers

  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a variety of situations

  • Demonstrated history of reliability, punctuality and attention to details

  • Reliable transportation between museum and school site, as position requires attendance at each.

  • Sound English and Spanish communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and federal background check.

Development Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Miami Children’s Museum (MCM), a non-profit organization, is currently hiring for the position of Development Manager. This position will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Museum’s fundraising programs and will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of External Relations to develop short and long term fundraising strategies.

Responsibilities include researching individual, foundation and corporate prospects, writing proposals, and soliciting sponsors for annual gala.

Museum Educator (Part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Miami Children’s Museum is looking for smiling people to lead field trip groups, host birthday parties, and interact with the public in the museum’s galleries. This is a part-time position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experienced working with kids, especially kids ages 3 – 12. Experience or interest in early childhood or elementary education a definite plus
  • Comfortable working with groups of people
  • Friendly and patient
  • Dependable and self-motivated
  • Flexible
  • Able to speak and understand English. Bi-lingual (English / Spanish) applicants preferred, but not required.

Schedule:

Multiple shifts available, but we are primarily looking for people who are available weekday mornings and/or weekends (all day).

Afterschool Program Instructors

Schedule: 3 pm – 6 pm, Monday – Friday during the school year

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Miami Children’s Museum is looking for instructors to work with our afterschool programs, including several free programs for inner-city children. The goal of the programs is to help kids grow – academically, physically, and socially. In addition to daily literacy activities and homework help, students will work towards fitness goals, learn and practice conflict resolution and other social skills, and create works of art. Each instructor will supervise up to 15 students (each group will also have an instructor assistant).

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise group of 15 students in all program activities, including arts, literacy, fitness, and homework help
  • Design and implement fun and educational arts, literacy, and fitness activities for students
  • Assist students with projects by working with them individually and in groups
  • Complete program documentation, including attendance and activity log

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one year experience leading groups of k – 8th students, especially in an educational setting. Experience working with inner-city communities preferred. Elementary, early childhood, or art certification preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with kids, parents and co-workers
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated history of reliability, punctuality and attention to details
  • Interest in the visual arts preferred
  • Sound verbal and written English skills. Additional ability to communicate in Spanish or Creole preferred.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and federal background check.

  • Assist group leader by preparing materials and maintaining a neat learning space
  • Read activity plan to review list of supplies and classroom setup, setting up classroom for activities
  • Assist students with projects by working with them individually and in groups
  • Assist instructors with student supervision and behavior management
  • At conclusion of activities, neaten learning space by putting away all materials, wiping tables, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Significant experience, with a proven track record, working with groups of prek – 8th graders. Experience working with inner-city communities preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with kids, parents and coworkers
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated history of reliability, punctuality and attention to details
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently (without direct supervision) and as part of a team
  • Sound verbal and written English skills, ability to communicate in Creole or Spanish preferred.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and federal background check.
