MCM Class/Camp Registration Fee Change

As of February 5, 2008, WALK-INS will be charged a registration fee of $65 for MCM Members and $70 for non-members.

The pre-registration discount for MCM camp will remain the same: $45 per day for MCM Members and $50 per day for Non-Members. 

 

MCM Summer Camp 2008

Michi’s Mates Grades: Pre-K (3) – K

Week 1: June 9-13
Michi’s Mates Cast Off!
Get ready for a fun-filled summer on Creative Island.  We will hunt for hidden treasure, build our own pirate ship, and set sail from our Carnival Cruise Ship.

Week 2:  June 16-20
Miró, Van Gogh, Picasso and I!
Our All About Art gallery will be our inspiration this week.  Get whimsical like Miró, paint fields like Van Gogh, and create a new face like Picasso.  So prepare to roll up your sleeves and make a masterpiece!

Week 3:  June23-27
Shake, Rattle and Roll
Stomp your feet, clap your hands, and tap your toes, as we keep the beat all week long!  Spend time making music and dancing in our World Music Gallery and then head back to the classroom to make some instruments of your own!

Week 4:  June 30-July4 (Camp is open July 4)
Science Superstars
You’re never too young to develop a love of science.  Discover how to make your own modeling clay, use a magnifying glass to uncover tiny details, make a super soap bubble, and blow up balloons without using your mouth!

Week 5: July 7-11
Seaside Splendor
Living in Miami is a lucky thing!  Come with us as we celebrate coastal living!  Carve a sand sculpture, create floating soap boats, decorate seashells and bring your beach wear on Friday! 

Week 6:  July 14-18
World Wide Wonders
Take a trip around the world in MCM’s You, Me and Teddy Bears Too Gallery.  Bring along your own fuzzy friend to join the fun!  We’ll decorate kits like those in Japan and create crowns like the queen wears in England. 

Week 7: July 21-25
MCM Petite Players
Are you a born actor?  Then this week is for you.  We’ll adapt one of our favorite children’s stories to perform in costume on Friday.  Come with cameras ready, it’s sure to be a Kodak moment.

Week 8: July 28-August 1
Tiny Top Chefs
What are your favorite things to eat?  Get your taste buds ready for a sweet, salty, sour good time!  We’ll make trips to our Publix gallery to make sure we have all the right ingredients.

Week 9:  August 4-8
Let’s Imagine
Bring fairy tales to life this week.  We will design a castle, make regal jewelry, battle dragons, and more.  If fantasy is your thing, come along for a fantastic, fun-filled week!

Week 10: August 11-15
Athletic Feats!
Grab your passport and fill it up as we investigate different countries and the Olympic events they are famous for.  Our Summer Games gallery will be our inspiration.  We will play our own games, complete with opening and closing ceremonies. 

Week 11:  August 18-22
Summer Safari
Growl, hiss, roar! Get ready for a wild week as we paint our faces, leave footprints, and create papier maché, all in the style of our favorite jungle animals!

Week 12:  August 25-29
Up in the Sky
In Miami we are used to seeing airplanes, but what are some other things that fly?  Learn about insects, animals, and even seeds that take flight in different ways.  We will make wings to inspire us.

Castaway Crew  Grades: Entering 1st-5th

Week 1: June 9-June 13
Castaway Cast-Off
Kick off the summer as we hone our camper survival skills.  Design treasure maps, weave your way through obstacle courses, and create your own first-aid survival kit.  Team up and test out your survivor smarts! 

Week 2: June 16-20
All Stars
Fitness is fabulous this week!  Our Summer Games exhibit will be our inspiration as we learn about athletic world-records and try to set our own. Frisbee, water balloon tag, relay races and long jump are just a few of Creative Island’s events.  Design your own jersey to bring you luck!

Week 3: June 23-27
Outer Space is the Place!
Blast off with us for a week of celestial discovery.  Learn how to identify different constellations, and design one of your own!  Make a planetary mobile, design your own space suit, make friends with alien life forms, and even launch rockets outside.

Week 4:  June 30-July 4 (Camp is open July 4)
Spy School
Get out your decoder and search for clues to solve the mystery of the misplaced MiChiMu!  Assemble your spy team and get out your notebook because this is one case that cannot go unsolved!

Week 5: July 7-11
Bank On It!
Are you an entrepreneur in the making?  Learn what to do in our Bank of America Gallery.  Come with an entrepreneurial idea in mind and we’ll help you make and market it.  Prepare to sell your merchandise on Friday and use the profits for a satisfying treat!

Week 6: July 14-18
Protectors of Play!
Do you dream of becoming a real-life superhero?  Then this is the week for you. 

We begin with inspiration from our Safety Zone Gallery, and then discover what it takes to become a fireman, police officer, or paramedic.  Learn from the experts when we have real professionals visit to discuss their work!

Week 7: July 21-25
Spotlight Stars
It’s your chance to create your own play, design costumes and the set, and perform in front of a live audience.   Hold on to your socks and bring your cameras; these performances are sure to impress!

Week 8: July 28-August 1
Bon Appétit
Do you like to dabble in the kitchen but love to eat even more?  Well this is the camp for you! We’ll try a new dish every day, including snacks and desserts and take home a book with our recipes.

Week 9: August 4-8
Ancient Artforms
Travel through time as we study the artistic traditions of ancient Mayan, Incan, and Egyptian civilizations.  A jewelry artist will join us to teach techniques for creating our own regal accessories!

Week 10: August 11-15
Everglades Explorers
Learn all about life in Florida’s Everglades.  We will create posters to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment and design a wildlife mural to hang in the museum. 

Week 11: August 18-22
Absolute Artists
Romero Britto, Kenny Scharf and Purvis Young have all found inspiration here in Miami.  Now it’s your turn!  Roll up your sleeves, pull out the paints and spend time in our All About Art Gallery.  We’ll make masterpieces even the pros will envy. 

Week 12: August 25-29
All Aboard!
Jump on board our Carnival Cruise Ship for a nautical adventure.  Learn knot-tying, boating terminology, and even design your own water craft!  Heave ho, here we go!

Haitian Heritage
Learn about the traditions and culture of Haiti.  Read stories and create crafts including your very own Tap-Tap bus!  Even learn Haitian words and phrases and create your own personal orisha!

June 6, 2008
Viva South Florida!
Miami cultures come alive as we make sequined Haitian-style flags and eat Cuban food.  Learn songs and dances from these magnificent cultures.
