opportunities for individuals and groups to
volunteer. Many of our volunteer
opportunities are listed here, but the
program is only limited to our imaginations
— feel free to contact us with your ideas!
Education
Gallery Gurus:
This is an excellent way to gain experience in the museum. You
will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the daily
operation of the museum as you interact with our guests. Guides
are responsible for ensuring our guests have the best experience
possible. Responsibilities include:

Interacting
with museum visitors of all ages and engaging them with
activities and simple demonstrations
-
Helping enrich
the museum experience for our visitors by answering
questions, offering directions and providing other general
information
-
Greeting,
orienting and assisting school and other groups
-
Participating
or leading special exhibit activities
Shifts available: Mondays - Sundays, 9:30 a.m. to 1:00
p.m./12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m./3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Creative Classroom Assistant:
Help children learn, play and create by helping to prepare and
conduct various classes, presentations and demonstrations.
Responsibilities include:

Interacting
with students (grades k – 5) one-on-one and in groups to
help with activities

Helping
teachers prepare and distribute project materials
-
Following
directions and working independently to set up and clean up
materials
Shifts available: Mondays - Fridays: afternoons, Saturday
morning & afternoon opportunities are available.
Playful Recreation Assistant /Preschool and Kindergarten
Assistant:
Model how to play and learn with early learners. Assist
pre-school children and their parents in the early childhood
area. Responsibilities include:
Shifts available: Mondays - Sundays: morning and afternoon
opportunities are available.
Story Time Reader
Have fun and help support the museum’s literacy program!
Read stories to small or large groups of visitors. Use props or
puppets and make story time come alive!
Shifts available: Mondays - Sundays, throughout the day.
Organize a Story Time Reader Team!
Recruit three or four co-workers, friends or family members and
start your own Reader Team. Take turns reading one shift per
week.
Birthday Buddy:
Help children celebrate their birthdays at the museum:

Setting-up/decorating party room

Greeting and
orienting party guests

Serving
refreshments

Being an
enthusiastic host/hostess

Assisting with
designated tours and activities

Assisting with
clean-up
Shifts available: Fridays 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday &
Sundays: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m./2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Mascot Representative:
Let you creative side shine by dressing up as the museums mascot
"MiChiMu". Help make a child's birthday special by visiting the
birthday party rooms.
Behind the Scenes
Right Arms:
The office aide will help with
general office tasks. Including:

Mailing

Answering phones

Entering data

Customer Service
Savvy Store Assistant/Terrific Ticket Takers/Gleeful Greeters:
We have several
opportunities to assist with the daily operation of the museum
as you interact with our guests. There are aide positions
available in our Kid Smart educational gift shop, at the lobby
desk and at the Parent/Teacher Resource Center.
Shifts available: Mondays - Sundays: morning and afternoon
opportunities are available.
