Healthy Kids Day

Saturday, January 6| 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Jump, skip, and hop into the New Year with games, activities, and entertainment that will get you moving, learning and living healthier! Learn some great cooking tips in our Healthy Cooking Sessions, practice your yoga moves, and receive free dental screenings with Colgate Bright Smiles Bright Future. Meet a nurse practitioner and see how fun checkups can be. Learn the benefits of laughter through our comical stage performances, and release your creativity in our Art Studio.

Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, January 139:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event set aside for children with sensory processing disorders and their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based arts and crafts, and watch a sensory-friendly stage performance. Meet community professionals, such as an Occupational Therapist and a Speech Pathologist. Pre-registration is required.

Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights Children's Concert

Join Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights for a special concert at MiChiMu! (included with general museum admission) 

Gifted with a “rock solid” voice , Joanie Leeds delivers music that speaks to kids, notable for its child-appropriate clarity, yet vocally Joanie soars easily through an array of styles. Target Free Third Friday

Friday, January 19 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the generosity of Target Corporation, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Due to the number of visitors on Target Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car.

Please note, Target Free Third Fridays hours have changed, hours are 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Lion Guard Exhibit Grand Opening

Saturday, January 27 | 10:00 am and 6:00 pm | Gallery will open at 12:00 pm

Zuka Zama! Our beloved animal friends are coming to MCM. Visit all your favorite spots in the Pride Lands including Pride Rock and the Lion Guard Lair. Train with the Lion Guard by testing your strength with Beshte and swinging from vines like Bunga. Then, become a member of the Lion Guard by helping with special missions, like running with Fuli to stop a zebra stampede! There is even a spot for the little ones to explore their senses while learning about the different animals of the savanna.

Mini Mondays

Every Monday
10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us 10am-6pm every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.

MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio – open daily | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm (weekends)

Come on in to our art studio, and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

 

MEET OUR MCM PLAYERS

Play, Learn Imagine and Create with our in-house theatrical troupe, the MCM Players. Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Sand Exploration | Sandcastle of Dreams

Children can mold, sculpt, and build their own creations in our box of kinetic sand!

Active Art | Art Studio

Come into the Art Studio and explore this month’s theme of SCULPTURE. We’ll be creating Joan Miró inspired sculptures using a variety of materials including wire, cardboard, and construction paper.

Mini Lion Cub Monday

Monday, February 5 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

The Lion Guard exhibit has officially opened and it’s time to celebrate and explore the Mini Monday way with Mini Lion Cub Monday.  Try out some percussive African beats, smell, taste and eat the tropical fruits of Africa and see the Miami Children’s Museum Theater Troupe’s brand new show, “Simama Nami (Come Stand with Me).”

Celebrating Black History Month

Saturday, February 17 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join us as we welcome the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center to celebrate the rich history of the African Diaspora through dance, music and drama. Performances will feature the Winds of Heritage Dance Company, the Voices of Heritage Vocal Ensemble and African Heritage Youth Theater.

Saturday, February 24 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

We celebrate black culture today through the eyes of our Haitian neighbors. We welcome staff from the Haitian Heritage Museum as they introduce Haitian arts to our guests. Join artist Tracy Guiteau in creating t-shirt tote bags inspired by fashion designer, Stella Jean.

What's New in What's New | Lion Guard Exhibit

2:00 pm 

Visit our new Lion Guard exhibit and learn about the African savanna and its wildlife through different team building games and activities.

Makers Play: Gee Bends Quilting | Art Gallery

4:30 pm

This month we’re focusing on fabrics. Learn about the community of Gee Bends, and create a geometric quilt.  On special days, check in to see if we are using our sewing machine!
