Special Events

A Spooky Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, October 12 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general developmental delays as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Watch a Halloween-themed sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapist, ABA therapist, or speech pathologist. Costumes are welcome!

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

Friday, October 18 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the support of Baptist Health South Florida, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car. Thank you.

Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash Fundraiser

Sunday, October 20 | 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm 

Miami Children’s Museum will host the 10th Annual Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash, Chaired by Kelly & Chris Melchiondo and Claudia Rodriguez & Oscar Rojas, on Sunday, October 20, 2019. Guests will trick or treat throughout the Museum’s 17 galleries from1-5PM, while also enjoying mini pumpkin decorating, story time, theater performances, character meet & greets, and more. Plus the Museum’s infamous haunted house will debut, providing guests with spooky tours.

All funds raised for the event will directly support the Museum’s educational programs, ensuring the highest quality educational and arts programming for South Florida’s youth and families.

Something's Brewing After Dark - Adult Halloween Fundraiser

Friday, October 25 | 9:30 pm – 1:30 am 

Explore the Museum after dark, brave our haunted house and dance the night away at our 5th Annual Something’s Brewing After Dark. Chaired by Frantz Pilorge & Keith Saunders, this all-inclusive party will take place on Friday, October 25, 2019, from 9:30 PM to 1:30 AM. This event will feature BITES from local eateries, craft BREWS, and cocktails courtesy of Bacardi. Make sure to dress to impress for your chance to win our costume contest.

MiChiMu's Halloween Week

October 26, October 27,  October 29, October 30 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

Gear up for Halloween at the Miami Children’s Museum, and check out our latest Haunted Exhibit. Partake in some spooky science experiments, and learn to cast shadows in our Art Studio. Join our Creepy Light Play, and watch our Theater Troupe’s original show, The Monsters Under My Bed. On the weekend, join us for trick-or-treating sessions throughout the day! All of our educators will be in costumes. You should come in yours, too!

Mini Monster Monday | Monday, October 28 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

BOO! It’s Halloween week at Miami Children’s Museum and we wanted to celebrate with the mini-est of our guests with a special Mini Monster Monday.  Dress up in the cutest or spookiest of costumes, trick-or-treat at 12:00 pm and 3:30 pm, catch our original Halloween theatrical production, The Monsters Under My Bed, at 11:00 am and 4:30 pm and join in our regular Mini Monday play based activities with a creepy twist.

MiChiMu’s Halloween | Thursday, October 31 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Celebrate Halloween at Miami Children’s Museum in your favorite costumes! Create some creepy crafts, and partake in some spooky science experiments. Watch our Theater Troupe’s original Halloween show, The Monsters Under My Bed , and, of course, enjoy our trick-or-treating!

Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us  every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. Art Studio Open Daily

12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

Come on in and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art subject, SHADOW AND LIGHT. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, Drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass souvenir. $8-$10 per glass item.

Tracing Shadows | Art Studio

12:30 am – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

This month join us in exploring shapes and forms with the help of light! Using colored pencils and a table light, trace the shadow of a projected 3D image while creating a new imaginative drawing from the form.

Story Time | Health and Wellness Classroom

Enjoy some of our favorite stories read by our talented storytellers.

Show Time: The Monster's Under My Bed | Auditorium

Shrieking and wailing sounds are coming from underneath Max’s bed. A monster, a witch and a pair of pale green pants with nobody inside them are determined to capture Max. But why? Enter if you dare, and discover a new, hilarious and sometimes spooky rock musical by Miami Children’s Museum Theater Troupe.

Mini (We're Back!) Monday

Monday, September 9 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

All day Mini Mondays are back!  We are kicking off the year with all of your beloved activities, Easel Play, Cooking Play, Music Play and more.  Also catch a show by our Theater Troupe based on one of your favorite picture story books. Your Mini Mondays team cannot wait to play and learn with you and your little ones once again.

Glow Party

Saturday, September 14 & Sunday, September 15 | 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Join us all weekend long for all things GLOW. Try our black light wall painting, and make glow in the dark Oobleck. Pop into our Art Studio to make a black light t-shirt*, and decorate your face using our glowing face paint. Then, join the Glow Party in our auditorium, where we will have dancing, games, and a photo op!

*Additional fee required for t-shirt.

Rosh Hashanah

Sunday, September 29 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Come celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Join PJ Library at 10:30 am for a special story time, decorate wooden apples, and try a delicious snack of apples dipped in honey. Afterwards, decorate cards for the holiday and play our shofar game!

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the communicative designs, lettering, and images of famous Hispanic graphic designers. Design and share your own heritage poster using stamps, cut outs, and mixed media to create layers and patterns on poster board.
