Space Explorations

Saturday, June 2 | 1200 pm – 2:00 pm

Top suits is a team of university designers, researchers, and programmers designing an augmented reality interface for astronauts on the International Space Station as part of the NASA S.U.I.T.S 2018 challenge. Join the team for some fun activities that incorporate principles of coding, space, and design!

Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, June 9 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Come check out our brand new Snoezelen room. Great sensory experiences await you and your child! This is a special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general developmental delays. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Watch a sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapist or speech pathologist.

Target Free Third Friday

Friday, June 15 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the generosity of Target Corporation, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Due to the number of visitors on Target Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car.

Please note hours for Target Free Third Friday have changed, it will now be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. 

Father's Day

Sunday, June 17 | 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Calling all dads! Join us for a day full of fun and exciting activities that will bring you and your child together closer. Play in our Daddy and Me Obstacle Course, and help your little one create a “Super Dad” mask! Participate in special STEM activities and enjoy our “Dad’s Only” Raffle!

 

Rainbow Families Day

Saturday, June 30 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Miami Children’s Museum is a place for all children. On Rainbow Families Day, join us for playful activities that celebrate and show our support for LGBTQ families. Enjoy story time featuring stories about different family makeups, work with our Studio Artist and add your piece to our collaborative art project, connect with other families and much more. Adults can also learn how to talk to children about LGBTQ families from our supporting partners: Equality Florida, Safe Schools South Florida and Unity Coalition | Coalicion Unida

This program is made possible by a grant from Our Fund Foundation, an LGBT Community Foundation and Nordstrom. Support for this program has been provided by GLBT Community Projects Fund at The Miami Foundation and the National LGBTQ Task Force.

Mini Mondays - Summer Series

Every Monday | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us 10am-6pm every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio Open Daily | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (10:30 am – 4:00 pm starting June 12)

Come on in to our art studio, and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects inspired by illustrations. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art theme. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, Drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

MEET OUR THEATER TROUPE

Play, Learn, Imagine and Create with our in-house theatrical troupe, the MCM Players. Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Paper: Pop Art Pictures | Art Studio

Inspired by Keith Haring, create colorful paper Pop Art with different dancing figures, shapes, and, of course, lines!

 

Sand Exploration | Castle of Dreams

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and build their own creations.

 

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio

1:00 pm and 4:30 pm (12:00 pm and 4:00 pm starting June 12)

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass keepsakes.

$8 – $10 per person to participate

Story Time | Baptist Children's Hospital Health & Wellness Classroom

12:30 pm (weekdays)

Enjoy some of our favorite stories read by our talented storytellers.

Show Time | Auditorium

12:30 pm and 4:00 pm (weekends only)

Enjoy performances by our Museum Theater Troupe based on our favorite children’s books.

 

Sculpture: Clay Play | Kidscape Village

3:30 pm 

Mold a masterpiece using moist clay, and decorate with other textured items, such as, pipe cleaners, yarn, and beads.

Paint: Easel Play | Art Gallery

4:30 pm 

Become an artist and create an original painting at our table-top easels.

July 2018 | When I Grow Up Month!

Special Events

2018 Explorers Summer Camp

June 11 – August 24 | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm | Ages 4 – 10

Our campers will take a blast through the past this year,  discovering ancient civilizations and time periods. Throughout the summer our explorers will participate in some of the oldest festivals and traditions, create artifacts and tools from prehistoric humans, design clothes from the renaissance period, build famous architectural structures, and prepare meals from different cultures.

Each week campers will enjoy a theatrical performance by our in house theater troupe, participate in recreational games and activities complete science experiments, get wet and wild on our water slides, and attend field trips to local attractions.

Independence Day Party!

Wednesday, July 4 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Celebrate our nation’s birthday by wearing your red, white and blue. Come and pop balloon fireworks, and sign the Declaration of Independence with your hand print. Play with giant bubbles and cool off with some delicious watermelon!

National Ice Cream Day!

It’s hot this summer, so we’re cooling down with some ice cream! Satisfy your cravings with a free ice cream from the Florida Dairy Farmers. Join us in an array of crafts that will stimulate your sweet tooth and the senses, including Kandinsky-inspired ice cream cones in our Art Studio.

Free Third Friday
