Special Events

Spring Fling

Sunday, April 1 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Spring is here and it is time to celebrate the sunshine! Enjoy a Peter Rabbit story time with our Museum Theater Troupe, and compete in our relay race. Participate in our Egg-cellent Egg Hunts happening between 12:00 and 3:00 pm and receive a goody bag! Dig into our spring-inspired sensory bins, and use different painting techniques to decorate egg-shaped art.

Saturday, April 14 | 2:00 – 3:30 pm – the Fellows from the New World Symphony

Catch some special performances from local organizations this month on select Saturdays. We’ll be focusing on all things Music, so don’t forget to create your own musical jewelry piece, play along in our drum circle, and dance away in our Dance Party!

Sensory Friendly Saturday: Celebrating Autism Awareness Month

Saturday, April 14 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general development delay as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Families will be able to join in our movement class and enjoy a sensory-friendly stage performance. Have the opportunity to meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapist and speech pathologist, and participate in an interactive music session while learning the benefits of music therapy.

Artsy Thursday: Celebrating Week of the Young Child

Thursday, April 19 | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Celebrate NAEYC’S Week of the Young Child through art projects in our Art Studio. We will be working on clay sculptures and easel painting which will enhance your child’s creativity, social skills, and fine motor skills.

Target Free Third Friday

Friday, April 20 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the generosity of Target Corporation, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Due to the number of visitors on Target Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car.

Please note hours for Target Free Third Friday have changed, it will now be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. 

Mini Musical Monday

Monday, April 23 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

What boosts your child’s brain power, social connections, creativity and encourages learning?  Why music, of course!  So let’s jam out, dance, sing and learn through the power of music with you and your mini ones.  Mark your calendars for a special performance from New World Symphony between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us 10am-6pm every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio Open Daily

Art Workshops | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm (weekends)

Come on in to our art studio, and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects or sandblasting workshops. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

MEET OUR MCM PLAYERS

Play, Learn, Imagine and Create with our in-house theatrical troupe, the MCM Players. Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Sand Exploration | Kidscape Village

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and build their own creations.

 

Musical Masterpieces | Art Studio

Come into the Art Studio and explore this month’s theme of MUSICAL PAINTING. We’ll be painting with musical techniques, such as plucking, blowing, and drumming, while being inspired by a variety of different musical styles.

Special Events

Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Join us for special programming during the weekends that celebrate these amazing cultures!

Kodomo No Hi! Children’s Day | Saturday, May 5 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Celebrate Kodomo No Hi, which is “Children’s Day” in Japan! Write your name in Japanese calligraphy and construct simple origami with representatives from the Consulate General of Japan and the FIU Japanese Club. Craft a lantern in our Makers Space, and create sumi-e paintings or festive carp banners throughout the day. Join our theater troupe for a special Kamishibai Story Telling and practice your flower arranging in an ikebana inspired art workshop.

Fushu Daiko Taiko Drumming Performances | Saturday, May 26 | 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm

Join us for some Taiko, a musical art form of traditional Japanese drumming, with Fushu Daiko, a local performance group!

Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, May 12 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Mother's Day

Sunday, May 13 | 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Join us for Mother’s Day and celebrate your mommies! Get dolled up and take Mom to our fancy Tea Party, where we will have a special performance by ballerinas from the Miami City Ballet. Learn some dance moves, and enjoy a meet and greet with the ballerinas where you can take pictures and ask questions. Then, spend the afternoon with us as we create cards and special crafts for Mom.

Mini Mom's Monday

It’s the day after Mother’s Day and the Miami Children’s Museum Mini Mondays’ team wants to celebrate our favorite Moms. Join us on Mini Mom’s Monday for an array of activities connecting mother and child from hand- and foot-print art to sing-a-longs. Most importantly, breakfast is on us between 10:00 am-12:00 pm!

Target Free Third Friday

2018 Explorers Summer Camp

June 11 – August 24 | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm | Ages 4 – 10

Our campers will take a blast through the past this year,  discovering ancient civilizations and time periods. Throughout the summer our explorers will participate in some of the oldest festivals and traditions, create artifacts and tools from prehistoric humans, design clothes from the renaissance period, build famous architectural structures, and prepare meals from different cultures.

Each week campers will enjoy a theatrical performance by our in house theater troupe, participate in recreational games and activities complete science experiments, get wet and wild on our water slides, and attend field trips to local attractions.

Experience Passover

Wednesday, March 28 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Even if you are celebrating for the first time, come celebrate the Passover with special activities! Make a matzah cover, and design a cup for Elijah. Then, join the PJ Library at 2 pm for a fun story time, decorate a place mat for the Seder, and munch on matzah.

Bai Choi, Vietnamese Bingo! | Cruise Ship Theater

Try your luck in this game of chance! Learn about a different kind of bingo, played traditionally in Vietnam.

Makers Play: Lantern Making

We’re exploring all the different styles of lanterns throughout the years from the various parts of Asia. Create your own lanterns using problem solving skills and your own imagination.
