Special Events

A Thankful Sensory Saturday

Saturday, November 9 | 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general development delays as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Watch a sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapists, speech pathologists, or ABA therapists.

To receive a social story booklet, please RSVP to sensorysaturday@miamichildrensmuseum.org or call (305) 373-5437 ext. 126. The Museum opens to the public at 11:00 am.

Superheroes Weekend

Saturday – Monday, November 9 – 11 | 12:00 – 4:00 pm

Celebrate Veteran’s Day Weekend by acknowledging Superheroes! Anyone can be a superhero, and we’re honoring those in the community who have made a super difference. Meet local heroes, like police officers, fire fighters, EMTs, and soldiers. Then, see what it’s like to be a superhero yourself. Train in our hero obstacle course, create masks and capes, and take pictures with other inspiring Superhero characters. 

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

Friday, November 15 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the support of Baptist Health South Florida, every third Friday of each month, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car. Thank you.

Mini Thankful Monday

Monday, November 25 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

It’s the Monday before Thanksgiving and the Mini Mondays’ team has prepared a special Fall and Thanksgiving program just for your little ones. Compete in our fourth annual Turkey Trot, prepare your Thanksgiving Day apple sauce during Cooking Play, dive into our Sensory Play full of leaves, cinnamon and pumpkins, and watch a theater performance.  Come dressed for the season!

Thanksgiving Celebration

Wednesday, November 27 | 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

It’s time to give thanks the Miami Children’s Museum way!  Make a thank you card for someone special, and design a placemat that you can use for the big day. Come earlier to create a banner or cardboard box float for your family and show it off in our Thanksgiving Parade at 2:00 pm!

Mini Mondays

Every Monday | 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us 10:00 am-6:00 pm every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.

MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio – open daily | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

Come on in and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art subject, GRAPHIC DESIGN. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, Drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

 

MEET OUR MUSEUM THEATER TROUPE

Play, Learn Imagine and Create with our Museum Theater Troupe. Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Sand Play | Kidscape Village

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and build their own creations!

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio Glass Lab

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass souvenir.

Please note, each glass item is $8 – $10. 

Story Time | Baptist Health and Wellness Classroom

Enjoy some of our favorite stories read by our talented storytellers.

Emboss and Enamel | Art Studio

12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

This month join us in exploring the metal art of enameling. Using a pencil, emboss your metal paper with a variety of shapes and patterns. Then, decorate with vibrant colors using enamel paint.

Show Time: The Monster's Under My Bed | Auditorium

12:30 pm and 4:00 pm (weekends only)

Shrieking and wailing sounds are coming from underneath Max’s bed. A monster, a witch and a pair of pale green pants with nobody inside them are determined to capture Max. But why? Enter if you dare, and discover a new, hilarious and sometimes spooky rock musical by Miami Children’s Museum Theater Troupe.

Gallery Play | Construction Zone

Tropical Holiday Celebration

December 14 – December 24

Join us every day for special Holiday-themed fun! Catch our Theater Troupe’s animated storytelling of the Grinch, and sing along with a ukulele caroling session. Create gifts for your loved ones in our maker space, and then design your own gift wrapping paper in our Art Studio. Visit with Santa for a photo at select times throughout the day. Hanukkah Celebration

Sunday, December 15 | 11:00 am – 4:00 pm 

Celebrate Hanukkah with us as we roll eight days into one! Start the day off with PJ Library, a local library serving Jewish children and their families, at 11:30 am for a special story time, holiday craft, and tasty marshmallow dreidels! Then, join the Musical Maggid at 12:30 pm for a special interactive music session. Learn how to play the dreidel game, and make Hanukkah-themed gift wrapping paper in our Art Studio.

Mini Merry Monday

Monday, December 16 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Tis’ the season to be Merry! It’s the beginning of the Holiday season, it’s starting to get “chilly” and it’s time to come together as a Mini Mondays community for Mini Merry Monday.  Come meet Santa at 11:30am and 4:30pm, join New World Symphony Musicians from 11:00am-12:00pm, listen to our carolers, paint some icy snow flakes and cook some delicious latkes. Dress festive!

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

Friday, December 20 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the support of Baptist Health South Florida, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge. Join us for special performance by the New World Symphony Fellows at 4:00 and 4:30 pm. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car. Thank you!

Noon Year's Eve Celebration

Tuesday, December 31 | 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

3, 2, 1, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Ring in the New Year (a few hours early) with a countdown and our biggest and best balloon and confetti drop yet! Toast to the New Year with chocolate milk from the Florida Dairy Farmers, and dress up for the occasion with our accessory giveaways (while supplies last).  After the balloon drop, stick around for fun activities to help you continue the celebrations during the nighttime. (Make sure to arrive by 11:30 am for the balloon drop at noon!)

Please note: the Museum will be closing at 4:00 pm.
