Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, February 9 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general development delay as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Watch a sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapists, speech pathologists, or ABA therapists.

To receive a social story booklet, please RSVP to sensorysaturday@miamichildrensmuseum.org or call (305) 373-5437 ext. 126. The Museum opens to the public at 11:00 am.

Mini Valentine's Monday

Monday, February 11 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Love is in the air and it’s time to celebrate the love you and your mini one have for each other on Mini Valentines Monday.  Decorate cards in our Art Studio, cook with love during Cooking Play, dance hand in hand to the music of Dance Play and simply spend quality time together.  Don’t forget to wear red and hearts!

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

Friday, February 15 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the support of Baptist Health South Florida, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car. Thank you.

 

Glow Party Weekend

February 16 – 18 | 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Join us all weekend for dancing, black light wall painting and glow in the dark oobleck! Pop into our Art Studio to make a black light t-shirt* for our Glow Party!

Mini Mondays

Every Monday | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us  every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio Open Daily | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

Come on in to our art studio, and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art subject. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

MEET OUR MIAMI CHILDREN'S MUSEUM THEATER TROUPE

Play, Learn, Imagine and Create with our in-house Theater Troupe! Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Sand Exploration | Castle of Dreams

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and dig.

 

Scratchin' Sgraffito Masks | Art Studio

12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

Come into the Art Studio and explore the medium of OIL PASTELS. We will be focusing on artwork by Lois Mailou Jones, and learning about the technique of Sgraffito, which comes from the Italian word meaning “to scratch”.

 

Story Time | Health and Wellness Classroom

Enjoy some of our favorite stories read by our talented storytellers.

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio

12:00 pm – 4:00 pm weekends (weekdays by request)

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass souvenir. $8-$10 per glass item.

Three Captains are washed up on Watson Island after a gigantic storm.  Watch them battle it out through sword fighting, rock-paper-scissors, song and an epic rap battle to decide who becomes captain of this here island

Maker's Play: Freedom Quilt Patchwork | Maker's Space, Art Gallery

Learn about sewing and patchwork and how it was used in history to free slaves through the Underground Railroad.

Meet the Scientists | Health and Wellness Classroom

Learn about these incredible black scientists, and see what you can discover in these fun experiments.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss' 115th Birthday

Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

Hop on Pop and come celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday! Enjoy original stage performances, create Truffula trees in our Art Studio, and play with our Seuss-themed sensory bins.

Mini Dr. Seuss Monday

Monday, March 4 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss, from our mini-est of guests!  That’s right, we are celebrating all things Dr. Seuss – Mini Monday style. So join us as we go beyond the pages of Dr. Seuss’ popular books and explore the words and pictures through making green eggs after watching a performance of Green Eggs & Ham, hopping and popping on a room filled with bubble wrap after reading Hop On Pop, balancing like the Cat In the Hat and catching more performances like Battle of the Things and What Was I Scared Of.

Dr. Seuss Birthday Party

Tuesday, March 5 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Hop on Pop and come to Dr. Seuss’ birthday party! Join us for special celebrity readers and for several original stage performances by our Theater Troupe. Sing Happy Birthday, cut the cake, and enjoy face painting and balloon twisting. Create Truffula tress in our Art Studio, and take pictures with the Cat in the Hat!

There will be FREE ADMISSION on this day, thanks to the generous support of The Children’s Trust. Dr. Seuss’ Birthday party is also sponsored in part by Florida Dairy Farmers.

Slime Break

March 23 – 24 and March 30-31 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Get your SLIME ON at the Museum during our spring break weekends. Create your own custom slime in our Slime Room, where you can choose color, “toppings”, and even scent. Join us for special SLIME O’CLOCK demonstrations at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, where one lucky winner will get to be slimed!

Spring Camp | Wilderness Week

March 25 – 29 | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm | Ages 4 -10

This spring camp, Miami Children’s Museum Explorers Camp will learn the skills needed to survive in the wild. Campers will learn about fire building, map reading, knot tying, water collecting techniques, and shelter building. Our explorers will also take nature hike across the island completing a scavenger hunt along the way. Join us on Friday when campers will show off what they’ve been learning all week.
