2018 Explorers Summer Camp

June 11 – August 24 | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm | Ages 4 – 10

Our campers will take a blast through the past this year,  discovering ancient civilizations and time periods. Throughout the summer our explorers will participate in some of the oldest festivals and traditions, create artifacts and tools from prehistoric humans, design clothes from the renaissance period, build famous architectural structures, and prepare meals from different cultures.

Each week campers will enjoy a theatrical performance by our in house theater troupe, participate in recreational games and activities complete science experiments, get wet and wild on our water slides, and attend field trips to local attractions.

Kindergarten Kickoff

Saturday, August 4 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Is your child ready for kindergarten? Get all the tips you need to start the school year off right. Fine motor skills, numeric ordering, and sound and letter recognition are just a few of the necessary skills your child can practice before they begin their educational future. Visit with the Florida Dairy Farmers, join our School Readiness Raffle, and hop aboard a real school bus! Learn about healthy snacks for your lunch box, and practice your circle-time with an interactive music session. Resource tables from different organizations that will help ease the transition into kindergarten will also be present.

Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, August 11 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general development delay as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Watch a sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapist or speech pathologist.

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

Friday, August 17 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the generosity of Baptist Health South Florida, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge, the third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car.

Mini Mondays - Summer Series

Every Monday | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us 10am-6pm every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio Open Daily | 10:30 am – 4:00 pm 

Come on in and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art subject, SHAPES. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, Drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

MEET OUR THEATER TROUPE

Play, Learn, Imagine and Create with our in-house Theater Troupe! Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

The Shape of Art | Art Studio

10:30 am – 4:00 pm

This month, join us in discovering how math is also a large part of art. Using tape and paint, create regular or irregular shapes and abstract designs inspired by artist, Piet Mondrian.

 

Sand Play | Kidscape Village

11:30 am

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and build their own creations.

 

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio

12:00 pm – 4:00 pm 

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass souvenir.

$8 – $10 per person to participate

Maker's Play: Tallest Tower Challenge | Maker's Space, Art Gallery

3:30 pm 

Using a variety of materials, create a freestanding tower. Then, use a ruler to see whose is the tallest!

Math Games Tournament | Health and Wellness Gallery

4:30 pm 

Play a variety of games that will help you practice counting, sorting, and adding to 10.

DWNTWN Art Days

September 7 – 9 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join Miami Children’s Museum as we explore art through the medium of WIRE inspired by local artist, David Zalben. On Saturday and Sunday, meet David himself and create your own wire sculpture to add to our collaborative project.

$10 admission when you show your Art Days program or app.

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

MiChiMu's 15th Birthday Fiesta

Saturday, September 15 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm 

It’s MiChiMu’s Quincenera! Come celebrate another great year at Miami Children’s Museum for our mascot MiChiMu’s birthday. We’ll have games, balloon twisting, and face painting. Join us for several special performances by our Theater Ensemble, a playful piñata, fun with a Mariachi band, and, of course, birthday cake!

Rosh Hashanah

Sunday, September 16 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Come celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Join PJ Library at 10:30 am for a special story time, decorate wooden apples, and try a delicious snack of apples dipped in honey. Afterwards, decorate cards for the holiday and play our shofar game!

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage month by creating your own traditional mola, a popular art style in Panama. Explore color, line, and patterns while using different textiles, such as fabric, felt, and yarn.

Enjoy some of our favorite stories read by our talented storytellers.
