Celebrate Music Month

Catch some special performances from local musicians and organizations this month on select weekend days. We’ll be focusing on all things Music, so don’t forget to create your own musical instrument, and play instruments and dance in our Music Times!

Mini Musical Monday

What boosts your child’s brain power, social connections, creativity and encourages learning?  Why music, of course!  So let’s jam out, dance, sing and learn through the power of music with you and your mini ones.  Mark your calendars for a special performance from New World Symphony between 11:00am and 12:00pm.

Artsy Thursday: Celebrating Week of the Young Child

Thursday, April 11 | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Celebrate NAEYC’S Week of the Young Child through art projects in our Art Studio. We will be working on clay sculptures and easel painting which will enhance your child’s creativity, social skills, and fine motor skills.

Sensory Friendly Saturday: Celebrating Autism Awareness Month

Saturday, April 13 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general development delay as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Join us for Creative Movement and Mindfulness with special instructor Jennifer Puig. Then, watch a special interactive music performance, Singin’ with Susan, at 10:30 am. Watch a sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapists, speech pathologists, or ABA therapists.

Experience Passover

Sunday, April 14th  | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Even if you are celebrating for the first time, come celebrate the Passover with special activities! Join the PJ Library at 10:30 am to enjoy yummy treats, Passover-themed crafts, and a special story time. Then, join the Musical Maggid for an interactive musical performance at 11:30 am. Enjoy the rest of the day by making matzah covers, and designing a cup for Elijah.

Free Third Friday Presented by Baptist Health South Florida

Friday, April 19 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Thanks to the support of Baptist Health South Florida, every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car. Thank you.

 

Earth Day Extravaganza

Saturday, April 20 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join us for fun filled activities that teach your little ones how to be GREEN! Create robots from recycled materials, learn to make paper you can plant, enjoy the Lorax Story Time, and a performance of Down by the Dock.

Spring Fling

Sunday, April 21 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Spring is here and it is time to celebrate the sunshine! Enjoy a Peter Rabbit story time with our Theater Troupe, and be careful not to drop the eggs in our relay race. Participate in our Egg-cellent Egg Hunts happening between 12:00 and 3:00 pm and receive a goody bag! Dig into our spring-inspired sensory bins, and use different painting techniques to decorate egg-shaped art.

Every Monday | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us  every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio Open Daily | 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays) | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (weekends)

Come on in to our art studio, and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art subject. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

Play, Learn, Imagine and Create with our in-house Theater Troupe! Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Sand Exploration | Castle of Dreams

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and dig.

 

Guitar Cubism | Art Studio

Come into the Art Studio and explore this month’s theme of CUBISM. Inspired by Picasso’s various guitar paintings, we will be using construction paper, markers, oil pastels, and scissors to create this musical masterpiece.

Enjoy some of our favorite stories read by our talented storytellers.

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass souvenir. $8-$10 per glass item.

 

Show Time: The Lost Pirates | Auditorium

Three Captains are washed up on Watson Island after a gigantic storm.  Watch them battle it out through sword fighting, rock-paper-scissors, song and an epic rap battle to decide who becomes captain of this here island

See what fun music can bring! Dance, sing, and play along in these jam sessions.

Maker's Play: Instrument Making | Maker's Space, Art Gallery

Mother's Day

Sunday, May 12 | 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Join us for Mother’s Day and celebrate your mommies! Get dolled up and take Mom to our fancy Tea Party, where we will have a special performance by local ballerinas. Learn some dance moves, and enjoy a meet and greet with the ballerinas where you can take pictures and ask questions. Then, spend the afternoon with us as we create cards and special crafts for Mom.

Mini Mom's Monday

Monday, May 13 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

It’s the day after Mother’s Day and the Miami Children’s Museum Mini Mondays’ team wants to celebrate our favorite Moms. Join us on Mini Mom’s Monday for an array of activities connecting mother and child from hand- and foot-print art to sing-a-longs. Most importantly, breakfast is on us between 10:00 am-12:00 pm!

Kodomo No Hi! Japanese Children's Festival

May 18 and 19 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Celebrate Kodomo No Hi, which is “Children’s Day” in Japan! Write your name in Japanese calligraphy and construct simple origami. Create sumi-e paintings or festive carp banners throughout the day. Join our theater troupe for special Kamishibai Story Telling, and watch amazing Taiko drumming performances by Fushu Daiko at 1 & 3 pm. Participate in a martial arts workshop, and practice your flower arranging in an ikebana inspired art workshop.

How People Make Things Exhibit Opening

Saturday, May 25 | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Learn the art of making in our newest exhibit! Join us for our Grand Opening at 12 pm, and explore how to cut, deform, mold, and assemble within the gallery. Acquire new skills by trying to engrave wood or practice embroidery. Try fabric design in our Art Studio, and enjoy an original performance by our Theater Troupe.

Summertime Tinkers Summer Camp

June 10 – August 23 | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm | Ages 4 -10

This summer, Miami Children’s Museum will activate our camper’s creativity with hands on learning and experiences. Each week campers will grab their tools, tinker, explore, imagine and create something extraordinary with simple everyday objects. Campers will also enjoy a weekly theatrical performances by our in house theater troupe, participate in outdoor recreational games and activities, work in our tinker lab, cool down mid-week with water slides, and attend field trips to various local attractions. To learn more, click HERE.
