Special Events

Sensory Friendly Saturday

Saturday, October 13 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Great sensory experiences await you and your child in this special event designed for children with sensory processing disorder and general development delay as well as their families. Lights and sounds will be dimmed to create a comfortable environment for your little ones to explore. Participate in sensory based activities, developed by an occupational therapist, to improve their ability to process and regulate sensory information. Watch a sensory-friendly stage performance, engage in calming movement groups and meet community professionals, such as an occupational therapist, ABA therapist, or speech pathologist.

To receive a social story booklet, please RSVP to sensorysaturday@miamichildrensmuseum.org or call (305) 373-5437 ext. 126. The Museum opens to the public at 11:00 am.

New World Symphony Performance

Saturday, October 13| 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm

Enjoy a very special performance from our friends at New World Symphony!

Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash

Sunday, October 14 | 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Get ready to trick or treat throughout the Museum’s 17 galleries on Sunday, October 14! This family friendly event, presented by Capital One, features a toddler room, Donut Decorating with Dunkin Donuts, not so spooky story theater performances, lunch by Pollo Tropical, character meet & greet and more! Plus brave the haunted tour through our NEW exhibit, Pirate Island.

All funds raised for the event will directly support the Museum’s educational programs, ensuring the highest quality educational and arts programming for South Florida’s youth and families.

Early bird pricing is open until September 9 – join the fun and click HERE to purchase your tickets.

Free Third Friday

Friday, October 19 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Visitors can roam the Museum free of charge, the third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car.

 

Something's Brewing After Dark

Saturday, October 20 | 9:00 pm – 1:00 am

Become a kid again as you explore the Museum and dance the night away at our 4th annual Something’s Brewing After Dark, featured as Miami’s 10 Best Halloween Costume Parties by Miami New Times! This all-inclusive event will take place on October 20 from 9:00 pm – 1:00 am and will feature bites from local restaurants, craft brews and multiple open bars. Make sure to dress to impress to take part in our annual costume contest! All funds raised for the event will directly support the Museum’s educational programs, ensuring the highest quality educational and arts programming for South Florida’s youth and families.

MiChiMu's Halloween Week

October 27,  October 28, &  October 30 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

Gear up for Halloween at Miami Children’s Museum as we open our newest exhibit, Pirate Island. Partake in some spooky science experiments, and experiment with paint in our Art Studio. Join our Creepy Light Play, and watch our Theater Troupe’s original show, The Monster Under My Bed. On the weekend, join us for trick-or-treating sessions throughout the day! All of our educators will be in costumes. You should come in yours, too!

Mini Monster Monday | Monday, October 29 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

BOO! It’s Halloween week at Miami Children’s Museum and we wanted to celebrate with the mini-est of our guests with a special Mini Monster Monday.  Dress up in the cutest or spookiest of costumes, trick-or-treat at 12:00pm and 3:30pm, catch our original production of The Monsters Under My Bed at 11:00am and 4:30pm and join in our regular Mini Monday play based activities with a creepy twist. MiChiMu’s Halloween | Wednesday, October 31 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Celebrate Halloween at Miami Children’s Museum in your favorite costumes! Create some creepy crafts, and partake in some spooky science experiment. Watch our Theater Troupe’s original show, The Monster Under My Bed, and, of course, enjoy our trick-or-treating!

Mini Mondays are a place for infants and toddlers to grow and develop through play.  Join us  every Monday, for a program full of play-based activities specifically designed for children from birth to five.  With no school group visits on Mondays, we ensure a safe, quieter and fun environment for your little ones to explore and enjoy.“The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” – Erik H. MEET OUR STUDIO ARTISTS

Art Studio Open Daily | 10:30 am – 4:00 pm 

Come on in and join our studio artists in creating hands-on art projects. Use your imagination and creativity, while exploring this month’s art subject, PAINT. These art projects are fun for all ages. The Art Studio is open every day. During busy times, the Studio doors open every half hour, for about 20 visitors (adults included!). Occasionally the Art Studio may be closed during the day for cleaning or to set up a new activity. Otherwise, Drop by at any time, and stay as long as you like!

MEET OUR THEATER TROUPE

Play, Learn, Imagine and Create with our in-house Theater Troupe! Join this wacky team for interactive story times, dance parties, shows and more. It’s bound to be a blast!

Sand Play | Kidscape Village

We will bring out our sand box full of kinetic sand! Children can mold, sculpt, and build their own creations!

 

Experiments in Art | Art Studio

This month, join us in discovering the art of PAINTING. Experiment with different ways to paint and with a variety of materials, including salt, bubbles, and oil, to see what crazy things can happen to your paintings.

Sandblasting Workshops | Art Studio

Join us for a sandblasting workshop to make your own frosted glass souvenir. $8-$10 per glass item.

Maker's Play: Light It Up | Maker's Space, Art Gallery

Check out the T in STEAM this month as we learn about simple circuits. Create a jewelry piece or little creature, and watch them light up with the power of circuits.

Show Time: The Monster Under My Bed | Auditorium

Shrieking and wailing sounds are coming from underneath Max’s bed.  A monster, a witch and a pair of pale green pants with nobody inside them are determined to capture Max. But why?  Enter if you dare, and discover a new, hilarious and sometimes spooky rock musical by Miami Children’s Museum Theater Ensemble.

November 2018 | Native American Heritage Month!

Special Events

Dia De Los Muertos Celebration

Saturday, November 3 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm 

Come learn about Mexican culture with the Consulate General of Mexico. Decorate sugar skulls, and make tissue paper marigold bouquets. Enjoy special performances of children’s story, Just a Minute, by Yuyi Morales and authentic dance performances from local organizations. Take a photo at the beautifully decorated ofrenda, and end the day as part of our Day of the Dead Parade.

A Thankful Sensory Saturday

Free Third Friday

Friday, November 16 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Every third Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm, visitors can roam the Museum free of charge. Due to the number of visitors on Free Third Fridays, we suggest leaving strollers at home or in the car.

 

Native American Heritage Celebration

Saturday, November 17 | 12:00 am – 4:00 pm

Learn about Native American people from all over the country and their unique cultural traditions! Visit with the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum staff to learn about the Seminole tribe through arts and crafts and an interactive story time. Create sand paintings based on the Navajo tradition, or step into our Art Studio to try Rock Art. Assemble a shark tooth necklace like the members of Miami’s Tequesta tribe, and play games that were popular with New Mexico’s Zuni tribe.

 

Mini Thankful Mondays

Monday, November 19 | 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

It’s the Monday before Thanksgiving and the Mini Mondays’ team has prepared a special Fall and Thanksgiving program just for your little ones. Compete in our fourth annual Turkey Trot, prepare your Thanksgiving Day apple sauce during Cooking Play, dive into our Sensory Play full of leaves, cinnamon and pumpkins, and watch a theater performance.  Come dressed for the season!

Thanksgiving Celebration

Wednesday, November 21 | 11:00 am – 4:00 pm 

It’s time to give thanks the MiChiMu way!  Make a thank you card for someone special, and design a place-mat that you can use for the big day. Come earlier to create a banner or cardboard box float for your family and show it off in our Miami Children’s Museum Thanksgiving Parade at 2:00 pm!

One Day Camps

When kids are out of school, bring them to Miami Children’s Museum to play, learn, image and create! Join us as we explore new places and celebrate different cultures through original and fun activities.

Explore a variety of different instruments that are a big part of Hispanic culture. Play different rhythms and make music with some new friends
