JAN 28 – Voyage to Vietnam Exhibit

Miami Children’s Museum will open Voyage to Vietnam: Celebrating the Tet Festival on Saturday, January 30, 2016; a new traveling exhibition that explores Vietnamese culture.  Children and their parents will delight in the opportunity to discover the beauty, sights and sounds of Vietnam through its most important celebration of the year, Tet. Funded through a highly competitive national initiative by the Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series, and developed by Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, the Voyage to Vietnam exhibition is traveling to nine children’s museums as part of a national tour.

Through the initiative, Miami Children’s Museum was specially selected as one of the nine museums nationally to host Voyage to Vietnam: Celebrating the Tet Festival for a three month period through Sunday May 8th.  The Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series is funded by the Freeman Foundation, and administered by the Association of Children’s Museums.

Voyage to Vietnam: Celebrating the Tet Festival showcases traditions, customs and values exemplified by the annual celebration of Tet and the New Year.  Through interactive exhibits, families will immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture, gain appreciation for traditions, values and daily experiences of people who live in Vietnam, and discover similarities and differences between their lives in the U.S. and the lives of children in Vietnam.

Visitors will be welcomed into the exhibit through the New Year gateway, and transported to the Tet Festival in modern day Vietnam. The immersive Marketplace experience is the perfect place to select traditional flowers and faux food items to prepare for the celebration.  Back in the home section of the exhibit, families can pose for interactive family photos and dress in customary Ao Dai.  Children can try on a giant Lion Dance Mask and engage with the parades, games, and music and enjoy a Vietnamese puppet show by our MCM Players.  It is perpetually midnight in the Courtyard area of the exhibit where the visitor-created Fireworks burst in the night sky and signal the coming of the New Year.

Discover Voyage to Vietnam: Celebrating the Tet Festival with the whole family at Miami Children’s Museum, 980 MacArthur Causeway on Watson Island in Miami Saturday, January 30th through Sunday, May 8th, 2016.  Entrance to the exhibit is included with regular Museum admission, which is $18 for adults and children, $14 for Florida Residents, free for children under 1 year and admission for MCM Members is complimentary.  For more information, please contact the Museum at 305.373.KIDS (5437) or visit www.miamichildrensmuseum.org.

Interactive Learning at Miami Children's Museum

At the Miami Children's Museum, learning is made fun and exciting through interactive play. Kids learn and grow by exploring each exhibit, which encourages curiosity and hands-on discovery. This approach helps children build important thinking and problem-solving skills while having a great time.

We use a hands-on approach to learning, which matches current educational ideas. This way, kids understand more and remember what they learn. They can try activities like building, making music, or exploring a pretend ocean, following their interests and learning at their own speed. This freedom helps kids develop a love for learning that lasts.

We also make sure our exhibits are accessible and fun for all children, no matter their abilities. This focus on inclusivity means every child can take part and benefit from what we offer. It shows our important role in helping kids learn and bringing families together.

Popular Exhibits at Miami Children's Museum

We feature exhibits that inspire curiosity and imagination in kids. Here’s a look at some of our most popular attractions that both children and parents enjoy.

  1. The Castle of Dreams

The Castle of Dreams welcomes kids into a magical space where they can use their imaginations. Children can pretend to be knights, princesses, or dragons with dress-up areas and storytelling corners. A small castle makes the experience even more fun, letting kids invent their own stories.

  1. Ocean Odyssey

The Ocean Odyssey exhibit takes kids on an underwater adventure in the middle of Miami. It shows bright displays of ocean life, including coral reefs and touch tanks where children can feel sea creatures. Kids can also learn about why protecting the ocean matters through fun, interactive panels.

  1. Music Makers Studio

The Music Makers Studio is a fun place where kids can explore music. They can try digital keyboards, drums, and even record their own sounds. Kids enjoy this studio because it lets them be creative and express themselves through music.

  1. Health & Wellness Center

The Health & Wellness Center turns learning about healthy habits into a fun adventure. Kids can try activities that teach about fitness and good nutrition in a playful way. They can run obstacle courses, play games about healthy eating, and even pretend to shop for groceries.

  1. Construction Zone

In the Construction Zone, kids become young builders and engineers. They use blocks and tools to create everything from simple towers to complex structures. Working together on projects helps them practice problem-solving, teamwork, and spatial skills.
