JUL 15: Miami Children’s Museum Names Dr. Judy Schaechter and Nancy B. Lash to Board of Directors

Miami Children’s Museum has named two new members to the Board of Directors for the Museum.  Joining the Board for the coming year are well-known community activists, Nancy B. Lash and Dr. Judy Schaechter.

Nancy B. Lash is the Co-Chair of the Miami Real Estate Practice for GreenbergTraurig, P.A.  She represents clients both in Florida and nationwide in broad aspects of commercial real estate.  Her experience includes the negotiation, documentation and closing of the sale, purchase, financing, and development of a wide variety of commercial real estate projects.  She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law and a Trustee of the United Way.  She is listed in Best Lawyers in America and Florida Super Lawyers, was recognized by Bisnow as a South Florida Power Woman and is a multi recipient of the Chambers USA Award for Excellence.

“I look forward to working with my fellow Miami Children’s Museum board members to help enrich the lives of all children in our community by fostering a love of learning,” said Lash. “At Greenberg Traurig we have a long tradition of supporting important organizations in South Florida and I’m excited about this opportunity to encourage young minds to play, imagine and create.”

Judy Schaechter, M.D., M.B.A, is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.  She also serves as Chief of Service for Holtz Children’s Hospital at the Jackson Health System. Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Schaechter has special expertise in community health, education, preventative medicine, adolescent gynecology, injury and violence prevention.  In addition to serving with numerous child advocacy programs, she has a national reputation for promoting safety, access to health care, professional diversity, and wellness.  Her passion has also affected policy change in firearm injury prevention, vaccination supply, access to health care, and freedom of speech. In recognition of her leadership and remarkable achievements, Dr. Schaechter was presented in 2018 with an American Academy of Pediatrics Outstanding Service in Advocacy Award.

“Miami Children’s Museum is an anchor in our community to excite children about learning and exploring, to join families in discovery and play, so foundational to child development.  I am pleased to join the Miami Children’s Museum Board in this important work” shared Dr. Schaechter when asked about what it means for her to join the Board of Directors.

Interactive Learning at Miami Children's Museum

At the Miami Children's Museum, learning is made fun and exciting through interactive play. Kids learn and grow by exploring each exhibit, which encourages curiosity and hands-on discovery. This approach helps children build important thinking and problem-solving skills while having a great time.

We use a hands-on approach to learning, which matches current educational ideas. This way, kids understand more and remember what they learn. They can try activities like building, making music, or exploring a pretend ocean, following their interests and learning at their own speed. This freedom helps kids develop a love for learning that lasts.

We also make sure our exhibits are accessible and fun for all children, no matter their abilities. This focus on inclusivity means every child can take part and benefit from what we offer. It shows our important role in helping kids learn and bringing families together.

Popular Exhibits at Miami Children's Museum

We feature exhibits that inspire curiosity and imagination in kids. Here’s a look at some of our most popular attractions that both children and parents enjoy.

  1. The Castle of Dreams

The Castle of Dreams welcomes kids into a magical space where they can use their imaginations. Children can pretend to be knights, princesses, or dragons with dress-up areas and storytelling corners. A small castle makes the experience even more fun, letting kids invent their own stories.

  1. Ocean Odyssey

The Ocean Odyssey exhibit takes kids on an underwater adventure in the middle of Miami. It shows bright displays of ocean life, including coral reefs and touch tanks where children can feel sea creatures. Kids can also learn about why protecting the ocean matters through fun, interactive panels.

  1. Music Makers Studio

The Music Makers Studio is a fun place where kids can explore music. They can try digital keyboards, drums, and even record their own sounds. Kids enjoy this studio because it lets them be creative and express themselves through music.

  1. Health & Wellness Center

The Health & Wellness Center turns learning about healthy habits into a fun adventure. Kids can try activities that teach about fitness and good nutrition in a playful way. They can run obstacle courses, play games about healthy eating, and even pretend to shop for groceries.

  1. Construction Zone

In the Construction Zone, kids become young builders and engineers. They use blocks and tools to create everything from simple towers to complex structures. Working together on projects helps them practice problem-solving, teamwork, and spatial skills.
