“When our sons were young, their favorite place was the Miami Children’s Museum. Our son Calder visited the Museum on the evening before he unexpectedly passed. The Museum is not only a happy place, but a sacred place for us. The Caleb and Calder Crane Factory in the Port of Miami exhibit dedicated to Mr. Awesome warms our hearts. We’ve long partnered with Deborah Spiegelman and her excellent team at the Miami Children’s Museum on numerous events. When we first heard about the incredible work of Farm Share, we became excited beyond measure to collaborate with them in feeding families and people in need with this Free Food Giveaway.” – Chris and Carla Sloan co-founders of Caleb and Calder’s Awesome Foundation.
“It is an honor for us to work with the wonderful Caleb & Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation to bring some assistance to those most vulnerable in our community who are experiencing challenging times,” says Deborah Spiegelman, CEO and Executive Director of Miami Children’s Museum. “We are also excited to be working with Farm Share to fight hunger in our community.”

About Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation
Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation is a 501(3)c non-profit focused on child advocacy, children’s social issues and water safety in the memory of Calder Jacob Sloan, whose personal mantra was laughter, adventure and kindness. Calder, affectionately known as “Mr. Awesome,” was just 7 years old when he lost his life in a tragic accident caused by the electrification of a metal light in the family’s swimming pool. Calder’s younger brother, Caleb, will play an active role in the foundation as he grows up.
Since the organization’s founding in 2016, Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation has succeeded in changing pool safety codes in the state of Florida; raised awareness to the dangers of electrical wiring in pools and homes; transformed and beautified three inner-city schools with Annual Awesome Give Back Days; packed thousands of backpacks full school supplies for underprivileged children with its signature event House of Awesome; supported Parkland High School students in the wake of the deadly tragedy; responded to many numerous natural disasters with supplies and matching funds, The Annual Calder Sloan Toy Drive for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, and created Operation Puerto Rico Gift Lift and Care Lift to provide over $500,000 worth of aid and toys to the people of Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Most recently, the Foundation just completed the campaign “Covid-19 Has Met Its Match” which raised $120,000 in matching donations to over 50 charities and organizations involved in Covid-19 relief such as food banks, first responders, PPE suppliers, and hospitals. The Awesome Foundation is now embarking on a series of food giveaways for families, communities, and people in need throughout South Florida partnering with Farm Share.

About Farm Share
In 1991, food waste led to the creation of one of the nation’s most sustainable food charities, Farm Share. The organization’s founder, Patricia Robbins Alger, discovered that thousands of pounds of perfectly good fruits and vegetables were discarded daily by farmers and others because they weren’t “pretty” enough to sell commercially. Using the fresh produce for good, Farm Share began to distribute the food to agencies, soup kitchens, food banks, shelters, and churches at no cost, helping feed Florida’s most in-need residents. Today, Farm Share is led by CEO Stephen Shelley and serves more than 2,000 partnering agencies. For every dollar donated, Farm Share can distribute 10 pounds of food. The Miami Children's Museum is known in South Florida for its fun, hands-on exhibits that turn learning into an adventure for kids. The top five exhibits are favorites among families because they each offer something special. Whether they spark creativity or teach about the environment, these experiences are memorable and keep families returning. Find out why these main exhibits are so popular with both children and parents.
At the Miami Children's Museum, learning is made fun and exciting through interactive play. Kids learn and grow by exploring each exhibit, which encourages curiosity and hands-on discovery. This approach helps children build important thinking and problem-solving skills while having a great time.
We use a hands-on approach to learning, which matches current educational ideas. This way, kids understand more and remember what they learn. They can try activities like building, making music, or exploring a pretend ocean, following their interests and learning at their own speed. This freedom helps kids develop a love for learning that lasts.
We also make sure our exhibits are accessible and fun for all children, no matter their abilities. This focus on inclusivity means every child can take part and benefit from what we offer. It shows our important role in helping kids learn and bringing families together.
We feature exhibits that inspire curiosity and imagination in kids. Here’s a look at some of our most popular attractions that both children and parents enjoy.
The Castle of Dreams welcomes kids into a magical space where they can use their imaginations. Children can pretend to be knights, princesses, or dragons with dress-up areas and storytelling corners. A small castle makes the experience even more fun, letting kids invent their own stories.
The Ocean Odyssey exhibit takes kids on an underwater adventure in the middle of Miami. It shows bright displays of ocean life, including coral reefs and touch tanks where children can feel sea creatures. Kids can also learn about why protecting the ocean matters through fun, interactive panels.
The Music Makers Studio is a fun place where kids can explore music. They can try digital keyboards, drums, and even record their own sounds. Kids enjoy this studio because it lets them be creative and express themselves through music.
The Health & Wellness Center turns learning about healthy habits into a fun adventure. Kids can try activities that teach about fitness and good nutrition in a playful way. They can run obstacle courses, play games about healthy eating, and even pretend to shop for groceries.
In the Construction Zone, kids become young builders and engineers. They use blocks and tools to create everything from simple towers to complex structures. Working together on projects helps them practice problem-solving, teamwork, and spatial skills.
These exhibits bring families together by making learning fun. Each one uses play to spark curiosity and help kids understand new things. Parents appreciate that the museum is a safe and exciting place for children to explore. Visiting us at the Miami Children's Museum helps kids grow and gives families special memories. Plan your visit today and see how interactive learning can be both magical and memorable.
