Rainbow Families Celebration

Join us during the month of June for a virtual Rainbow Families Celebration with playful and inclusive activities that show support for our LGBTQ families.

Edwin Creates, a visual artist and art educator, will show children and families how to make a mixed media rainbow and encourage them to share their art online. The Yes Institute will host an interactive and engaging conversation on Zoom about gender stereotypes, authentic experiences of children, and what parents can do to champion welcoming and safe environments for young people. There will be story times with special guests featuring stories that challenge stereotypes and explore diversity; art projects that demonstrate the importance of inclusion and how to be an ally against bullying; a resource list with information on youth support, LGTBQ+ education, and ways to be an ally; and so much more!

Our Rainbow Families Celebration is made possible with the support of Nordstrom and other contributing partners, including Edwin Creates, Human Rights Campaign, Safe Schools South Florida, and Yes Institute.

Join Miami Children’s Museum, in partnership with the YES Institute, for a fun-filled afternoon of informative discussion and age-appropriate activities for children and parents on Thursday, June 18!

Children are growing up in a time where gender equality topics are prevalent in the media and among their peers. Youth often face a great deal of pressure when attempting to fit in and conform to social expectations of masculinity and femininity. “SAFE SPACE FOR ALL” | How-To

“SAFE SPACE FOR ALL” | How-To

To be an ally is to stand up for someone who is being mistreated or bullied. It means to show empathy and compassion when someone needs you. It means to stand up for your friends or for someone you may not even know, who is being treated meanly. Treat everyone equally, even if someone seems different, be curious, not mean!

How can you be an ally? It’s as simple as displaying a sticker, wearing a supportive button or wristband, or even putting a “Safe Space for All” sign in your window at home!

In this activity you can create a “Safe Space for All” sign using the colors of the rainbow, a white wax (like oil pastels or crayons), and watercolor paint, in celebration of being an ally to everyone!
